Every year, ESPN publishes a “Body” issue, in which they have some of the biggest stars in sports pose nude as a celebration of athlete’s bodies and a comfortable medium to discuss insecurities (yes, even million dollar athletes have serious insecurities).
In the past, Prince Fielder, Kenneth Faried, Odell Beckham Jr. and Kevin Love have all posed nude for either ESPN’s Body Issue cover or inside images, and this year they’ve revealed their latest naked star: Dwyane Wade.
Wade loses every thread possible for the recently revealed photo shoot, and discussed what made him decide to finally pose for the high-profile issue after declining the opportunity for 7 consecutive years.
It was uncharted water for me. It was one of those moments where it’s good to overcome a fear of something. It’s bigger than me showing my body off. That’s not as important to me as telling a story of overcoming a fear. It hopefully gives someone confidence to really be their authentic self.
